These socks do not want to exist, it seems. I tore out the sock pictured here (this is the second time) after concluding that the stranded knitting was never, ever going to stretch enough to be an effective sock (at least not on those needles). So I'm redoing it with straight, non-stranded stripes, which goes a lot faster.

Have you tried doing stranded knitting in the round inside out? It makes it bigger. Lovely sock, sorry about the impossibility.
