I finally started a sweater from the yarn Laura gave me last Christmas. The pattern is Vivian. My yarn is quite a bit fuzzier than what's shown (Berroco Peruvia) and sort of mossy green, which makes the whole thing more subtle and organic looking.

t-shirt quilt
I made a quick-and-dirty quilt from a bunch of oversize t-shirts Tom wasn't ready to throw out yet. It really needs to be quilted a great deal more, but it's so relentlessly tacky that I can't quite bring myself to put more time into it. Being made out of old t-shirts (and an old jersey sheet), it's reeeeaaallly soft though.

Potato Stamps
While in Portland we made stamps from potatoes an used them to print on fabric. These are some of the results.
Messing around with watercolors
I have no real idea how to use watercolors, so trying to copy images is at least interesting from a learning control standpoint. (This is a page from Kabuki).
Lemon Marmalade
Randall's parents had a bumper crop of lemons, so I made marmalade. There was also lemon merengue pie, but I forgot to photograph it.

cubist alphabet
This is one of many things that was lost with my notebook from last summer. It is the cubist alphabet as seen in the museum of Czech cubism. Yay typography.

Corset Thing
This isn't laced at all tight in the pictures, but it can be. I will most likely wear it dancing or for costumey events. It is sort of steampunk, maybe - especially with the brown ribbon. More pictures.

Twirly skirt
I purchased a rolled hem foot for this because I couldn't stand the idea of ironing the hem (which is at least 7 yards) in the 80+ degree weather. Rolled hem foot for the win! It was wonderfully quick, and looks good. Beyond that it's just a lot of rectangles, gathered, and a drawstring waist. Very, very simple.
I've been sewing a fair amount lately, since I'm mostly done with school. Mostly mending and finishing up old projects, on the logic that I shouldn't be lugging around things I'll never finish. But I have to be moved out in three weeks, so I'll have to wrap things up before too long.

Exciting embroidery
I bought this embroidery (I think it's Vietnamese) off a guy at Folklife. I'm still figuring out what to use it for. But oh, man, detail.
Quilt progress
Though this picture was taken a day or two earlier, I am done with all the individual squares for my quilt. Now it just remains to add sashing, make a back for it, quilt and bind. I'm not sure it's very likely that this will get done before I move, though. We'll see.
Shirt!
I made a shirt! It probably needs to be taken in a bit, but is fabulously comfortable, This took basically no time, which is gratifying, and was done entirely from stash fabric, but I'm really happy with how it looks.

Quilt designs
I've started another quilt. Here are some watercolor designs I did before I started cutting. We'll see how it goes.

Inspirations: Flags of Imaginary Nations
This is really awesome.
My master's thesis is due Wednesday. After that, I hope, I'll get back to making more things instead of just reposting pretty things from the internet.

Airplane sock
More sock. This one is basically done, just a little ribbing to go. Then sock number two, possibly followed by a sweater.

Strawberries for Spring
I now have lots of strawberries and herbs planted. Hopefully I'll get some fruit before I take off in July.

Frogged Again
These socks do not want to exist, it seems. I tore out the sock pictured here (this is the second time) after concluding that the stranded knitting was never, ever going to stretch enough to be an effective sock (at least not on those needles). So I'm redoing it with straight, non-stranded stripes, which goes a lot faster.

Trail Gloves
I made these gloves for Tom to take on the Appalachian trail, which he leaves for next week. He wanted something wool, but didn't specify that they had to be serious...
(The wool is hand-dyed too - my first foray into dyeing yarn. Probably not something I'd use normally, but you never know. And the white swirly bits are made of some of the very first yarn I ever spun myself.)

wizard robe
Front:
Back:
Note the pointyness! I have plans to add a bell to the end.
Hood:
I am seriously bundled up here. It hangs better in real life.

I don't update enough anyway.
This sweater's been languishing forever. Jess "models" it here.
More pictures of stuff I've been making are available here. It's updated a hell of a lot more often than this blog.
Pink Elephant boxers
I made some very silly boxer shorts for Tom. I don't think anyone is as amused by them as the two of us, though. One of the elephants holds a very small, embroidered martini. Another shot is here. I also made a pair with aliens. I highly recommend this for instant-gratification sewing.

Sewing
Teaser shot for the thing I made last weekend. It is part sweatshirt, part wizard's robe. It needs a bell still.
